ABOUT EMILY DUFOUR
Emily DuFour began playing the cello at the
age of 10. In 2005 Emily earned her Bachelor of Music from
the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied with
Darrett Adkins, Frances Marie-Uitti and Peter Rejto. She
also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in biology from
Oberlin College. Emily completed her Master of Music degree
from the University of California, San Diego, where she
studied with Charles Curtis. Both at Oberlin and UCSD, Emily
taught cello lessons to undergraduates, as well as
maintained a cello studio in both communities. While in New
York, Emily has performed with such groups as the
International Contemporary Music Ensemble (ICE) and the
Wordless Music Orchestra. She has given many notable
performances, at such venues as Carnegie Hall and the
Smithsonian Hall of Musical Instruments, where she performed
on the museum-owned Stradivarius cello. As a member of the
Hutchins Consort, she has traveled around the country
performing on the baritone violin, a member of the new
violin family.

MS. DUFOUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
"With lessons that encourage creativity and questioning,
every person can benefit from the study of music. I strive to
give my students a simple, pure, and comfortable cello technique
that can be put to immediate use in many contexts and built upon
with time."
