ABOUT JENNIFER GIRONE

Jennifer Girone is an active freelance cellist and teacher currently based out of Manhattan. Originally from Long Island, Ms. Girone earned her Bachelors of Music from the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut, where she studied with Steven Thomas and earned honors such as principal chair in the Hartt Symphony Orchestra, “Best of” in the semi-annual chamber competition, and the Presser Foundation Scholarship. She went on to receive her Masters of Music at Mannes College The New School for Music in New York under the guidance of Paul Tobias. Her accolades included a performing-arts scholarship and the Assistant Principal chair in the Mannes Orchestra.

Ms. Girone has given performances across the United States in Los Angeles, California and at the Warner Bros. Studios with the Henry Mancini Institute, Houston, Texas at the Texas Music Festival, and in New Britain, Connecticut with the New Britain Symphony. She has performed in New York with Ensemble 212 and the Mimesis Ensemble, and as a founding member of the Brusca Clarinet Trio, she has also toured in Poughkeepsie, New York as well as the greater Hartford area. In addition, she has traveled to Lucca Italy to be a part of the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca.

Other honors include performing with such distinguished musicians as Bobby McFerrin, Doc Severinson, Dave Koz, Patti Austin, and Shelly Berg. She has also played under the batons of Christoph Campestrini, Stefan Sanderling, Quincy Jones, James Newton Howard, and Alan Silvestri.

Ms. Girone is currently receiving Suzuki certification at the School for Strings in Manhattan. In addition she has a teaching studio on Long Island and is a faculty member of the Belle Arti Center for the Arts. Her experience in teaching students of all ages in addition to her performance background gives her a well-rounded approach to practically any cellist, from a true beginner to a college applicant.

TEACHING EXPERIENCES

A member of the Suzuki Teacher Training Program at the School for Strings, Jennifer is on faculty of the Start Up program by teaching lessons and helping to run group classes.

Jennifer has also had private studios in Hartford, CT and on Long Island.

PERFORMING EXPERIENCES

Performances with the Mimesis Ensemble in New York at Columbia University and Symphony Space, as well as in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center

Performances in New York and Connecticut with Ensemble 212, Mannes Orchestra, Hartt Symphony Orchestra, and the New Britain Symphony.

As a founding member of the Brusca Clarinet Trio, Jennifer has toured in Poughkeepsie, New York as well as the greater Hartford area giving concerts, seminars, and coaching's.

Teaching Philosophy:

“You cannot use the same method to teach every student because everyone learns and reacts differently. A teacher has to adjust to each person and tailor their lessons to their specific needs.”

“Most importantly, I want lessons to be fun for everyone. Whether that means taking a break to jump up and down and get some tension out or incorporating games into the lessons, I want the child to walk away from our lesson feeling happy and rejuvenated.”
