About Vanessa

PIANIST

BIOGRAPHY

Vanessa showed an interest in music at an early age. She began private piano instruction at seven years old. By the time she reached high school, Vanessa performed as an accompanist in many of her school’s musical productions. After touring with the Midlothian High School Show Choir in various cities throughout Georgia, West Virginia, and Virginia, she aspired to pursue composition and music education at the university level. Vanessa was accepted to The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia where she studied for a year under jazz pianist Harris Simon. At this time, she decided to pursue her musical career in New York City and auditioned for the Aaron Copland School of Music. Vanessa was accepted as a piano major and studied under William McNally and Konstanza Chernov. In addition to her academic and piano studies, she participated in the Queens College Choir, Women’s Choir, and Choral Society. Participating in these ensembles inspired her to take private voice lessons with soprano Jessica Stolte Bender. Her vocal studies not only enhanced her understanding of the voice but how she composed her own music. By the end of her college career, Vanessa had several of her compositions performed in Lefrak Hall and co-founded the Women Composers Alliance. Vanessa graduated cum laude from Queens College and also received honors distinction from the Aaron Copland School of Music. Vanessa is a member of the Creative Advisory Group for the Argento New Music Project, an organization dedicated to innovative performance and cutting-edge music.

Vanessa currently resides in New York City and continues to compose and teach.
