ABOUT VERONICA

Chilean soprano Verónica Villarroel, known as the “The Accidental Diva” was discovered by the world renowned soprano, Renata Scotto, while singing the role of Musetta in La Bohème alongside Scotto at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile. After La Bohème, Scotto brought Verónica to New York and promoted her studies at the famous Juilliard School of Music. From there, Verónica went on to win the Pavarotti Competition in 1988 and the Metropolitan Opera House Competition in 1989, and has since become one of the most prominent sopranos of our time.

Ms. Villarroel has sung in opera houses across Latin America, Europe, Asia and the United States: The Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro de Liceu in Barcelona, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, France, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Dallas Opera, Munich State Opera, Gran Teatro de Monte Carlo, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the New National Theatre in Tokyo among many others. She has sung under the batons of James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Plácido Domingo, Leonard Slatkin, Valery Giergev, Maurizio Benini and Kent Nagano, just to name a few.
